Internet Filter

The Emperor has no clothes.

Apart from all the freedom of speech issues, one of the main problems I have with Government Internet filter is that it is creating a bottleneck in a system that runs perfectly well without it.

I understand that some parents are scared with what the Government and other special interest groups are feeding them. Most od those won’t even know about this post. A neighbour of mine who is younger than me has never even used SMS (Text messaging) let alone sent an email. Yet he has a young family and successful business. So you would think he would have to use at least one of them on a regular basis.

If you don’t understand something and people / institutions you trust are telling to be scared of it then you may just believe them.

I don’t care if surveys are showing that X% of students say they stumbled on porn whilst doing their homework. That’s what I’d say too if I had to come up with an answer as to why I was looking at porn. I’m sure it was Ronnie Foster of Year 8 (12-13yo} Magone class 1979 of St. Joseph’s Ferntree Gully who I first wittnessed use that excuse.. He nearly pulled it off so to speak.. the excuse I mean. A group of us had been sprung brawling over a porn mag like seagulls on a hot chip. The literature had been liberated by a mate from his good catholic Dad’s collection. He had cleverly smuggled it in rolled up in his social studies project on Ancient Sumer.

His plan of parading the mag and becoming popular certainly worked… just a little too well. He was mobbed by hordes of puebescent Catholic school boys in every direction. Luckily for him, he had chosen Year 8 sports double period for his reveal so he had his running shoes on. If he had chosen lunch time when the whole school was out on the sports fieldsm the story would have mad the evening news. Anyway you get the picture.

That was my first encounter with porn. I have no reason to believe that all of us that were exposed to this toxic influence and survived the experiencedid not go on to lead normal lives.
