UPDATE: Video transcript available for ‘Google News Teaches SEO’.
An old geeky mate of mine Nathan Allan just finished beta testing Bloggers SEO for me. The feedback he gave me was awesome but he did mention that he heard Google News was pretty easy to feature in if you just followed some simple configuration steps. This is actually not the case but a common misconception. It’s easier to feature in Google News if you syndicate. This week’s show is not about featuring in Google News but Nathan’s question did remind me of an email Google News sent out to it’s publishers in October last year. It was the second edition of their publisher newsletter. It seems a little odd that there has only ever been two, anyhoo..
We also got the exact same email in July last year as well. I suspect we have been getting them because we are adding Google Publishers to our search console. So this is not so much a news letter as a welcome email.
I have often been scoffed at, sniggered at and generally chastised by other SEOs for suggesting there are SEO best practices. For me they include but are not limited to, a neat and tidy site that is super fast and pages that have good structure, using clear page titles and heading tags. Guess what? Google agrees.
The heading tag debate has been going on for as long as I’ve been doing SEO. As long as they are used for good document structure they will help your SEO. Most designers use them for design elements which in my opinion is lazy and ignorant.
By the way this is what Nathan had to say about Bloggers SEO.
