Video Marketing SEO

by Jim October 15, 2013

I’m just about to record tomorrow’s show and I thought I’d take a peek at webmaster tools for inspiration. There’s been a bit of angst recently about Google making pretty much all search queries (Not provided) but I have always looked at Webmaster Tools Search Queries for potential new keywords because it shows volumes. Have a look at this one. Video Marketing SEO, according to Google gets 4500 search queries per month! The thing is though it has only recently appeared as a search query for us, about the last 3 weeks. I’ve been keeping an eye on it to see if it was a blip that I sometimes see but it doesn’t look like it. What the hell does that phrase even mean? I want to use it to show keyword research using webmaster tools.

Video Marketing SEO Volume
4500 searches for Video Marketing SEO!?

I would understand Marketing Videos with SEO

Video Marketing SEO I just don’t get. I would guess it would be one of the following.

  1. People looking for videos on how to do SEO for their marketing
  2. People who want to market their videos using SEO
  3. Or maybe even SEO guys wanting use video to market their services. (Heck , it’s worked for me!)

A weird phrase though right? I still was not entirely convinced people were searching for it as it didn’t make sense. So I went back into search queries and just selected Australia and there were only 16 queries but the balance were coming from around the globe. This odd phrase has me flummoxed why would so many people be searching for it? Sometimes when there is a spike like this for a keyword it’s because of social media chatter about the subject. The main page that was ranking for the phrase was one I wrote about video marketing. Here’s something weird again though. In google.com it’s the old blog I’m ranking for at no. 71 in Australia it’s the home page ranking at 21.

Dig deep before selecting keywords

At spot 21 Australia I have a good opportunity to get on the first page for Video marketing SEO so I can at least test that traffic. In the US it’s highly unlikely unless I do a serious amount of work which I don’t think would be worth it. What I have noticed recently though the more you publish the more it effects the rest of phrases you are targeting in a positive. As the saying goes “SEO Is An Ecosystem”

So the moral of the story here is, don’t rely on the tools. Use them to launch your keyword research but dig deeply. Who is searching for that phrase? Is it you? If so please stop it.
