We’re hearing a lot more these days about Social Media Optimisation, which can mean different things to different people. What does it conjour up for you? For me, it means making sure your social media presence gets the attention it needs to achieve the goals you set for it. I’m not necessarily talking about ROI goals either. As David Meerman Scott is famous for saying, “what’s the ROI of putting your trousers on every morning”, meaning that it is just something you have to do for a whole variety of reasons. One of the areas of a social media presence that I see neglected often is keywords and SEO.
Back in 2010 The Holla Agency ran a social media campaign for the local hosiery brand Razzamatazz. As Holla was a client of ours we were interested to see how this campaign influenced search volumes. The results were interesting. As soon as the campaign started searches for the brand spiked. The recent increase in search volume is because the brand has recently started a TV campaign.
The old axiom for online was “content is king” but your content is useless without the right keywords. Any good sub editor knows this, it’s nothing new. It’s as old as the print media itself. By using the keywords that your audience is using, it will be easier to connect with them and in the online space it will be easier for them to find you. In today’s Vlog I take a look at a new campaign that has neglected search.
