Since I’ve been using Google+ more I’m seeing more entries in the SERPS from people who shared them in my network. For instance the other day, I did a search for the word “flowers”. This is an extremely competitive phrase for which there are about 45,000 searches a month in Australia. Below is one of the results that appeared on the front page.
If you are an Australian you will know that Malcolm Turnbull is a Lawyer, former Chairman & Managing Director of Goldman Sachs Australia and now a politician. I happen to follow him on Twitter as he is the Shadow Minister for communications in the Federal opposition. Hardly someone I would associate with flowers! Google though, in it’s infinite wisdom has decided that I need to see that result because someone in my network had shared it. As I was logged into Google and my Google Profile has a link to my Twitter account, Google knows whom I follow on twitter.

This is still evolving but certainly customized results in search, based on your social network is here to stay.
