There was another article this week by @bengrubb in the Sydney Morning Herald on complaints about SEO Companies . It’s an all too familiar story unfortunately. We deal with it every day. Clients who have tried several different companies or tried the DIY SEO method only to come to a point where Google penalises them and their business very nearly goes under. I’ve written before about SEO for marketers and some key criteria you can use to choose an SEO but it’s handy if you understand the fundamentals. The main one you need to understand is that YOU as a business owner are a publisher. Publishing is the fuel that feeds your digital marketing. Both SEO & Social rely on you becoming a publisher.
The more you publish, the more content you have that has the potential to rank. If the content is worth sharing people will link to it. Google likes to sends its users to sites that are not virtual ghost towns where the content has not been updated in years. It’s also an opportunity to rank for new keywords. The more content you have the more potential visits you will get from search, providing that everything else is ok.
This one is a nobrainer. If you are not publishing why should Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn care about your site?
Man I say this one over and over again but every day I meet site owners who have never heard about webmaster tools let alone what it does. Here’s what it does, it tells you what Google knows about your site. If you are publishing all the time but not getting any traction it could be your site is full of errors or it is slower than a politician in a safe seat.
Watch this week’s video for a more in depth look at some of these issues.
