Prosperity Principle is the name of a digital agency that is advocating what I could only describe as comment spam.
We’ve all heard the SEO tricks, "My mate told me that if I placed white text on a white background I could stuff the page with keywords so I’d get ranked high in Google – also apparently if you just click on your link in Google over and over you will rise in the rankings; I heard that if you put a bazillion keywords in your metatags that works; I heard that if you use lots of extra metatags with keywords…." and on it goes.
I’m constantly explaining to people that Google is just trying to provide relevant results to a user’s search. Look at what it ranks as no.1 and then do better.
So it was with some surprise this week when I heard that Prosperity Principle, was promoting the use of blog comment spam as a legitimate ranking technique. I was at the Social Media Master Class in Melbourne when it was pointed out to me by a few people.
This technique has potential to backfire very badly on a brand.
Also this week I have the first couple of questions from an interview I did with David Meerman Scott at the Social Media Masterclass.
Jim’s been here for a while, you know who he is.
