I wrote about online crisis management back in 2008 and the biggest case we had worked on until then was Mars/Snickers. The sibling of online crisis management is online reputation management. They involve similar tasks but these days your online reputation can affect everything from getting a job to getting business. In today’s vlog I have a look at a company called Blue Ridge Telecom. They made two telemarketing calls to our office last week so we thought we’d have a look to see how they are doing online.
1. If it is not on the first page of search results, leave it alone. No one goes past page 1.
2. If it is a forum where the offending post is older than 4 months, leave it alone. As soon as you wade in you make it more popular in the eyes of Google
3. If it’s happening in FB/YT/Twitter deal with it in those media – most likely it will never get to Google search results but the if the issue is live you should at least have a voice.
4. Make sure you have registered your brand at every possible social media outlet. Make sure your brand has a YT channel, an FB page, a Flickr account, a twitter handle, Linkedin etc etc.
5. Make sure all your Google places entries are setup correctly.
6. Make sure you have registered at the major business directories in your town.
7. Make sure all of the above are optimised for your brand.
