Gasp clothing has been a big topic of discussion on the Stew Art Media blog over the past few weeks. The Gasp clothing email fiasco was the perfect storm of online reputation management and real-time social marketing that ended up spawning quite a few stories on the topic of Gasp clothing over the past few weeks. Here’s the emails that started it all and a recap of our coverage in the past few weeks.
The day before the emails began circulating, Jim’s weekly video blog highlighted the exact same principles of online reputation management in search engine results pages (SERPs) that Gasp clothing seemed to be ignoring altogether. Gasp clothing has actually had online reputation issues dating all the way back to 2005 that were rearing their head in Google’s SERPs long before #GaspFail. Make sure you’ve always got a voice and that you’re active in as many different social channels as you possibly can be just in case you ever need it.
Jim’s video blog was also centered on Gasp clothing and explored the difference between social reputation management and search reputation management. While Gasp clothing failed miserably at their social management, the reality of the matter is that social forgets quite quickly. Unluckily for Gasp clothing, search doesn’t. A quick Google search for Gasp clothing reveals they have a serious reputation issue in Google’s SERPs. Without a focus on addressing their search reputation issues, their day in the social media spotlight has resulted in a stain on the Gasp clothing brand for potential customers searching for their company. Jim took a look at how Gasp clothing or any other business with search engine reputation issues can help clear their name once the social storm dies down.
