The original show came out of a change in how we worked. Rather than treating SEO and advertising as separate products, we looked at where each could help a client’s business.

That is still the point. You don’t need every channel switched on. You need a reason for each one you’re paying for.

Give each channel a job

Use SEO to make useful pages accessible and relevant to the searches you want to serve. Consider Google Ads where paid reach can test an offer or reach relevant demand. Consider Facebook advertising where the audience and creative fit the offer.

Paid campaigns can run while organic work is underway, but they aren’t guaranteed to make sales quickly. Nor is there a universal waiting period for SEO results or a promise that organic traffic gets cheaper forever. Base the plan on the site’s condition, the market and what the business can afford to test.

Look for evidence of an opportunity

One useful workflow from the transcript was to compare Search Console queries, search results and interest over time before choosing an advertising test.

Keep that evidence in perspective. Impressions don’t prove commercial intent. Google Trends doesn’t provide an absolute sales forecast. Seeing no ads in one search doesn’t establish that clicks will be cheap or that nobody else is bidding.

Choose a relevant landing page, define the conversion and set a bounded test. Judge the result by qualified leads or profitable orders, not just whether the ad appeared.

Plan the follow-up without assuming universal tracking

A visitor may arrive through organic search or an ad and return later through another channel. Make the message consistent across that journey.

Where consent, platform rules and account capabilities permit, retargeting may support a useful follow-up. A pixel does not automatically create a reachable audience of every visitor, and an advertising audience is not an email subscriber list. Respect those distinctions before promising a campaign sequence.

Fix the landing experience and count the result once

More traffic won’t repair an unclear offer or a difficult checkout. Include conversion rate optimisation in the work when the site is losing people after they arrive.

Review channel reports alongside total orders, qualified enquiries and acquisition costs. Different platforms may claim credit for the same purchase, so don’t add their attributed conversions together and call that the business result. Where practical, use controlled tests to examine what the advertising adds.

Start with the strongest customer opportunity. Add another channel when it has a defined job and the evidence supports the spend.
