UPDATE: Video transcript available for ‘SEO Not Included’.
It’s good to be back! I couldn’t do a show last week as I was recovering from a nasty flu in San Francisco. Back on the 20th though I was attending the Think Global Retail conference in Las Vegas. I did quite a few SEO site reviews over there but there were always ones I could not get to. This week I’m doing a review of someone’s site that I did not get to.
Susie Behar is a retailer in Fort Lauderdale. They have recently taken their business online with a Shopify site. Whilst ecommerce CMS are great for lowering the barrier to getting online there is one thing none of them do well in my experience. SEO. It doesn’t come as standard.
Some ecommerce platforms are better than others for allowing SEO configurability but you still have to configure them. Building the site and getting it live is only half the job. As you will see from today’s review apart from the bad SEO layout, there is a lack of keyword focus. You can’t do any effective SEO on a site at least until you know what those keywords are.
Shopify has it’s own set of issues for SEO which can all be worked through but for a new site but it’s not too bad. We’re currently working with Bigcommerce on getting some SEO tweaks done to their platform which will be fantastic for SEO once implemented.
We had another 50 or so join us for this week’s live show which is 12 midday Melbourne time (GMT+10:00) Tuesdays. I’m thinking a better time would be 9:30 am then I could get London, as well as West & East coast USA. What is a good time for you to participate live?
Jim’s been here for a while, you know who he is.
