I had a bunch of sites to choose from last week for the SEO Audit. I thought I’d do another this week to show some other techniques that may help. If you want a full SEO Audit (not one of these 15 minute ones) you can order it here.
in today’s video I’m taking a look at girlfridayweddings.com.au . This site is doing remarkably well for rankings despite some major SEO issues. When you get a site in this situation you need to tread carefully and make sure you implement changes incrementally. It’s important that you watch how Google responds to your changes before you implement subsequent changes. That way if something goes wrong, you can just roll back the last change.
Like any journey, you need to know where you are before you begin so you know which direction to head. SEO is no different. IN the case of SEO one of the most important things to do is to understand where you currently rank for important phrases. In the case of Girl Friday, she ranks really well for some tough phrases. This is exciting because she has a lot she can fix too! Hopefully by fixing some of the things I looked at today she go from ranked sixes and sevens to twos and threes which should see a substantial boost in traffic.
The problems I found quickly yesterday were gleaned from running the Screaming Frog crawler over the site. The main one that stood out was a lot of 302 temporary redirects. I’m not sure why she had them but the site is only about 60 pages and 30% of them are temporary redirects to very low quality pages. This will normally adversely effect rankings as site is potentially full of issues to users.
I see this one a lot. The site has grouped Sydney & Melbourne together in a single phrase which no one will search for. Also as you will see from the video the site should probably be focused on the singular keyword rather than the plural as it has five times the volume of searches.
The H1 tag is being used on this site but it is being overused and therefore will be having little to no effect. Get your own SEO Audit with details of what you need to fix. This is what we do at the start of any campaign.
If you have a site that you’d like audited just let us know.
