4 ways to check the SERPs in other locations.

I always find it odd the things people type into Google. Google tells us that one in five search phrases have never been typed into Google before. 20%! That’s crazy. This is one of the reasons it’s so important to keep creating content. Every piece of copy you publish is another opportunity for you to rank.

SEO Is a funny thing

I noticed some odd search traffic the other day. All of a sudden we started getting hits for the phrase “how to check serp ranking from melbourne” . It turns out that because I did the, SEO consultant Melbourne, series of posts, I inadvertently began ranking for “how to check serp ranking from melbourne” .

Bounce Rate

Obviously I wasn’t trying to rank for it. If you have a look at the data below you can see that there clicks but the bounce rate is huge. This because I have nothing on the site that answers the question. So this is the post for that!

1. Use the ampersand Geolocation to append the results.

To check the results for a search in another country simply add &gl=UK to check the UK or the equivalent country code of the country you want to check.

2. Use the Google Search Tools

If you click search tools you can simply enter the city’s results you want to check

3. Use a Virtual Private Network (VPN)

This is the method I trust the most. By using a VPN Google thinks you are n the city where you VPN gateway is located. I use one called Astrill which costs about $80/year.

4. All of the above

If you use the VPN you can then use a combination of the other two methods with it as well. Hopefully I’ll see that bounce rate go down now 🙂
